MATH

Envision Math serves as our primary mathematics curriculum. We approach math with a hands-on, realistic perspective that encourages students to look at how mathematics is all around us, every day. Envision also provides computer resources like videos for extra practice at home.

SCIENCE

Amplify Science is a highly engaging, phenomena-based program for grades K–8 that integrates the latest practices in science teaching and learning, as well as interactive digital tools and hands-on activities, to teach students how to think, read, write, and argue like real scientists and engineers.

Kindergarten:

  • Unit 1 SOLIDS & LIQUIDS introduces matter in which students investigate the effects of temperature on different types of matter.

  • Unit 2 PUSH ME, PULL ME introduces design projects related to motion.

  • Unit 3 OUR ENVIRONMENT studies the relationship between living things and where they live and the impact humans have on the environment.

  • Unit 4 OUR WEATHER requires students to employ weather data gathered throughout the school year to identify methods of preparing for daily and severe weather.

Grade 1

  • Unit 1 PATTERNS OF DAYLIGHT make observations about how light illuminates objects to make them visible.

  • Unit 2 LIGHT & SOUND WAVES builds on the concept of light by introducing students to light and sound waves.

  • Unit 3 STRUCTURES & BEHAVIORS IN LIVING THINGS introduces the basic of heredity, and the structures and characteristics of living things that help them survive in their environment.

Grade 2

  • Unit 1 PROPERTIES & PATTERNS OF WATER describing and classifying different materials according to observable properties, develop models of land and water, and observe living things.

  • Unit 2 THE CHANGES TO LAND OVER TIME focus on processes that change land over time by studying natural events which precipitate change the Earth's surface.

  • Unit 3 PLANTS & ANIMAL INTERACTIONS plant and animals interactions, students examine the relationship between organisms and the world around them by investigating the interdependence among plants and animals within their habitats.

Grade 3

  • Unit 1 INHERITANCE & VARIATION introduces life cycles, inherited traits, and diversity among organisms.

  • Unit 2 INTERDEPENDENCE builds upon the understanding of traits to explore how organisms survival is dependent on how well suited they are to their environment.

  • Unit 3 CHANGE OVER TIME students learn how Earth Systems, climate, and the environment affect populations of organisms over long periods of time.

  • Unit 4 INTERACTING FORCES shifts the focus to the physical sciences, with students apply their understanding of patterns and cause and effect to explore forces and motion.

GRADE 4

  • Unit 1 STRUCTURE & FUNCTIONS OF ORGANISMS students explore light energy and how structure and function are related to how organisms process information from their senses, particularly sight.

  • Unit 2 TRANSFER OF ENERGY AND INFORMATION & Unit 3 ENERGY, MOTION, & COLLISIONS units two and three builds on the concepts of energy and information transfer by applying these ideas to physical science and mechanical systems energy, motion, and collisions

  • Unit 4 CHANGES OF EARTH'S SURFACES investigate ways, weathering, and erosion and their impacts on Earth's surface over long periods of time.

  • Unit 5 IMPACTS OF NATURAL PROCESS further investigating the relationships between energy, natural resources, and Earth's processes with the goal of designing solutions that minimize the negative effects of natural processes on humans.

Grade 5

  • Unit 1 PHYSICAL & CHEMICAL CHANGES develop models of matter and provide evidence that matters is conserve when  undergoing changes.

  • Unit 2 MATTER & ENERGY IN ECOSYSTEMS focuses on the cycle of matter and flow of energy in organisms and ecosystems. Unit 3F Systems Science the scale of the systems being studied is larger in

  • Unit 3 EARTH'S SYSTEMS SCIENCE the scale of the systems being studied is larger in Unit 3, as students describe and model how matter and energy interact in Earth systems, such as the water cycle.

  • Unit 4 STARS IN THE SOALR SYSTEM expand the scale of the system's understudy, as they investigate stars and the solar system.

SOCIAL STUDIES

Our students begin studying social studies by first studying themselves and their neighborhood, and then year by year expand their studies to other cultures, parts of the country and countries of the world. All of our social studies lessons and projects integrate reading and writing themes from the NYCDOE Passport Curriculum.
